India, when entered in late 80's was staring at a multifaceted problem of infusion of plastics in the MSW and the lack of infrastructure to segregate them along with the technology to dispose them responsibly. What resulted was a complete chaos of indiscriminate dumping of MSW in the dump yards with no sign of segregation. When years passed by, the Urban and Local bodies faced the "Not in my Backyard" syndrome coupling with acute shortage of space to build new infrastructure. The elephant in the room was 'legacy waste' which was crying for a solution.
